Daily Tips for Staying Hydrated

Daily Tips for Staying Hydrated

Most people know they need to be adequately hydrated for their bodies to function properly.  They also know it is a lot easier said than done.  No matter your reasoning, the truth is many of us need to find ways to drink more water throughout the day.  Below are some easy ways to stay hydrated all day.

1. Know how much water you need to drink.  The National Academy of Medicine (NAM) recommends 90 ounces a day for women and 125 ounces a day for men.  However, you also need to consider your activity level, your health, and how hot it is outside.  If you exercise frequently, you will need to increase your water intake.  Also, certain medical conditions may require you to drink more water each day to keep yourself hydrated.

2. Keep a reusable water bottle handy.  To drink more water, you need to have it close by and handy.  Even if you are out running errands, you need to have water within reach.  By purchasing a reusable water bottle, you are more likely to carry water with you, no matter what you are doing.  The golf shop carries reusable cups to keep your water by your side.

3. Make sure that you are drinking throughout the day.  If you consume small amounts of water throughout the day – sipping during your commute to and from the office or while you are on the phone at work, makes it easier to consume more water.  You may even want to set a timer to help you remember to drink water each hour.  Drinking water all day also helps to keep your mouth from getting dry and can make your breath fresher.

4. Increase water intake by eating certain foods.  Many foods are high in water content, including several fruits and vegetables.  They include lettuce, celery, zucchini, cabbage, watermelon, cantaloupe and honeydew.  Not only will you be adding water to your diet, but these foods are also great for your overall health.

5. Add flavor to your water.  If you struggle to drink water because you don’t like the taste, you may want to add some flavor.  You can add fresh fruit to your water or add water infusion drops.
